ABOUT ME.
Well, firstly, Clayfield is a pseudonym. I adopted this when I first started to paint and show my art. Like many new artists, I was hesitant about what people would think about my work and hence the need to have the "mask" of anonymity.
Soon after that I realized that it is not about what others feel about my art, it's what I feel. But that is now the name under which I paint and present my art.
As I often tell people, I am a man with a career behind me. I have worked for a number of International companies, had the opportunity to travel widely and have run my own businesses (and still do). I stumbled (headlong) into the world of art, when I met the sculptor, Sherry Housley and was amazed at her stunning work.
From then on I have become more and more involved in the art world. My eyes were opened and one day, whilst playing golf, I was struck by the beauty of the sky above. I took a photograph on my iPhone and went home and began painting. That 1st painting "bunker at the 6th" is shown in "my art" page here on the website. It also hangs in my studio at home as a reminder of where it all began.
Since then I have become more and more involved in art and owned Salamander Fine Art Gallery in Burnsville, NC.
Now I can't stop painting. I love exploring the different media and often decide on a subject to paint without knowing fully where it will go. Somewhere early in the process the title of the piece comes to me and then that shapes the final painting and drives me to complete it.
I still find the process of creating a piece, both exciting and frustrating. I don't think that will ever change.
Now I love to show my work. It is part of me. A part that has lay dormant for many years and one which will no longer stay hidden.
